BC SCHOOL FRUIT & VEGETABLE NUTRITIONAL PROGRAM
We are very pleased to announce that Blueridge Elementary has been accepted into the BC School Fruit and Vegetable Nutritional Program sponsored by B.C. Agriculture in the Classroom Foundation and ActNowBC.
This is a very successful province-wide healthy living initiative. One of the goals is to encourage healthy eating by providing fresh B.C. Fruits and Vegetables to the students during classroom time. They will receive picked, washed, and ready to enjoy produce for 13 weeks at no charge! For our first delivery on September 19, students were treated to fresh, ripe blueberries. Feedback from the kids was instant - "yum, blueberries!" A few of them asked, "What do we get tomorrow?" Although there aren't deliveries everyday, Blueridge students can look forward to something fresh and tasty every two weeks. Our schedule is as follows: October 3 Baby Carrots October 24 Bartlett Pears November 7 Grape Tomatoes Nov. 21 Asian Pears Dec. 5 Mandarin Oranges Jan. 23 D’Anjou Pears Feb. 6 Sliced Apples Feb. 20 Mini Cucumbers Apr. 16 Spartan Apples Apr. 30 Baby Cucumbers May 14 Sweet Baby Bells June 4 Cherry Tomatoes We're very excited to introduce this new initiative to our students. Check out the website http://www.sfvnp.ca/ for all sorts of delicious program details. If you have any questions, Doris Pfister Murphy, Program Coordinator, would be happy to hear from you. |
